Workaround(s)
Connect permit the various programmes to define their own fields. But it does not seem that Connect permits the programmes to add these fields to the search. This a problematic short-coming, as the field can be very decisive for the programme in question. For instance,
in the SQL Server programme, where I'm mainly active, the Category field is very important. If I search for a bug in the engine, I don't want to see a bug in Reporting Services.

I have found https://connect.microsoft.com/Connect/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=182792
so my submission is essentially a duplicate of this report. But as that item has been sitting
there for a while, I wanted to emphasize that this is a pressing issue to make Connect more useful.

Thanks Erland for raising this issue again. We are actively working on enhancing our searching and browsing capability for an upcoming release of Connect. In a release coming out soon, you'll see some improvements to how you can manage all your feedback. Out next steps will be to improve how you find related or duplicate issues.

Have you tried the "Advance Search" to look for items with these values? Our general search on the main feedback page only searches "Title & Description", (which we unfortunately realize is not intuitive). The Advance Search allows you to search all text based fields which may return you the results more closely to what you are looking for, though not the optimal solution you are asking.

We'll keep you informed our of progress on this as soon as we have definitive plans on when and how we are going to address this issue.

Thanks,
Glenn Bulat (Connect Product Team Feedback PM)

Advanced Search is the only search page I use on Connect.

This suggestion is also related to the suggestion I submitted which asks for the ability to filter searches.
