Workaround(s)
Many times in the FSX beta there were files attached to bug reports. These were not accessible to other users of the forum, but this would have been very useful.

For example, a screenshot would be posted showing a particular bug. No-one outside MS could see the picture, so it would have to be posted elsewhere and the URL embedded in the bug report.

Recommendation
Please make attachments optionally viewable by other non-MS members of the group. They should default to 'private' for security, but allow the original poster to choose whether others can see them.

Hi Jim,

Many thanks for your suggestion!

We actually have this in our radar and are planning to allow public attachments some time soon. We will keep you updated on this.

Thanks again.

This was promised during the VISTA beta.

Our apologies Thin Ice- we have been working hard to improve the site. We have a new release coming this March, and our next focus will be around the Feedback area. The enhancements will be heavily influenced by all the suggestions you guys have sent us via this program.

Thanks!

I had actually posted thisin June of 08and it just got closed today as a no fix. Please add this. I stated to haave it be the posters option with a checkbox to decide if it should be public, but as long as the user has a choice the sooner this get implemented the better.

This was promised during the IE7 beta too.

Considering that the IE7 beta and the IE8 beta have passed by I don't sincerely believe that ANYONE is actually working on this.

Very sad. Real bug tracking systems encourage community involvement. Too bad Connect can't compare.

"this March" has also come and gone without anything happening. I'm really missing the point of the whole "Connect Website Improvement" program

On March 28, 2008 we released a better serach experinece (top right corner) and RSS feeds.

As I mentioned, feedback area (including bug attachments) is the focus area of our September release.

The bare minimum is that I can access my own attachments, so that I know what I have submitted. Posters must definitely
have a possibility to make their attachments privates, as the attachments may contain sensitive data, and I agree making
that private should be default.

Wow, September! It takes six months to add a flag indicating whether or not to expose a file, which is already uploaded to your site, to anonymous users? Or better yet, to the person who submitted the file in the first place? I understand there is no revenue that you can attribute directly to Connect improvements, but if this were my product, I'd be fired for taking this long to add a feature that is so obviously and sorely missing.

Well the "better Search experience" is an epic fail. I ran some tests to see if I could find text I'd used in certain bugs and I didn't find anything useful or expected.
