User(s) can reproduce this bug
C:\fakepath is shown in the attach files dialogue in Connect when selecting or typing the path to the attachment to be uploaded

See screenshot montage - area outlined in Red. If the select button is used, the dialogue shown in the lower half of the screenshot pops up and allows you to select the file you wish to upload. Clicking open returns you (as expected) to the attachment dialogue. At this point, the attachment dialogue shows C:\fakepath\filename in the text box left of the select button.
Details (expand)
Reproduction Steps
Please note, I have only tested this with Windows 7 RC1/IE8

Complete a feedback submission
Click attach file
Attach a file by either using the select button/browse dialogue or typing in the file name.
See C:\fakepath in the text box to the left of the select button.

It is not clear if typing in the filename uploads the file - will test it and comment on it in this submission shortly.
Expected Results
The text box to the left of the select button should show the actual path and filename chosen by the user... or at the very least only show the filename and not "C:\fakepath"

Hello NooNoo,

In our recent work around the new file attachment workflow, we have investigated this issue. As a result, our team found out that this is actually a "feature" enabled by the telerik control we use on the file upload page. It's a safety precaution for uploading files to "Internet zones" via IE.

You can read more about it here: http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/aspnet-ajax/upload/ie8-upload-control-shows-quot-c-fakepath-quot.aspx

I am going to close this issue as By Design.

Thanks!

This works for me If you go to Internet Explorer; Tools; Internet Option; Security; Custom; find the "Include local directory path when uploading files to a server" (it is quite a ways down) and click on "Enable" this works & eliminates that pesky little "fakepath" that inhibits the upload.

Regards.

We are planning to address this in the next release (not the upcoming Jan release) together with revamped file attachment workflow.

Thanks!

Hopefully it will be the first thing that makes the test script <g>

Thanks NooNoo,

We are actually not sure why "C:\fakepath" is displayed in the first place.

Right now we are investigating on a redesign of the file attachment experience and workflow (tentatively delivered early next year). This issue will probably get fixed by the redesign. I will keep this item on our radar.

upload 1 was completed by typing in the full pathname and filename (difficult to do when all you can see is c:\fakepath while you are typing)
upload 2 was completed by typing in just the filename
Upload 3 used the select button.

This behaviour was noted with Windows 7. I will post another comment when I have access to an XP machine to see if the same behaviour is displayed when OS libraries/indexing are not available.
