Description

Some programs that use IE libraries for display create temporary files in the TIF folder. IE8's 'Delete browsing history' did not remove these files, but this was corrected in IE9. IE10 10.0.9200.16521 behaves in the same way as IE8 in this respect.

This is a major problem for users of Windows Live Mail and other programs that behave in the same way. There are cases of the program ceasing to work properly, in particular not being able to display messages. Troubleshooting has revealed in some cases that the TIF folder has grown to 7GB containing up to 500,000 files.

From a post at answers.microsoft.com by an IE10 user facing this problem:

"the TIF did not move but stayed the same as it always has been, I guess it is being contrary and not doing as I tell it to do.

Here is the information you asked for the Properties of the Temporary Internet Files.
Size: 9.87 GB (10.598.905.751 Bytes)
Size on Disk: 10.3 GB (11.086.618.624 Bytes)
Contains 460.102 Files
43 Folders

After seeing this, it seems like a lot, even after I delete the Browsing History ..."

Did you follow the steps to reproduce?
Did you see the temporary files created by Windows Live Mail?
Were they removed by 'Delete browsing history'?

They would be removed by IE9. They are not removed by IE10. I can reproduce this endlessly.
