Q: Is there an age requirement for participation in the Microsoft Game Studios Beta Program?

A: Yes. If you live outside of the United States, you must be at least 18 years old to register in Connect. U.S. residents must be at least 16 years old to register. If you are a resident of the United States with a valid United States address, and you are between the ages of 16 and 18, you will need to complete a Parental Consent Form (valid only in the United States) prior to registration.

More information and a link to the Parental Consent Form can be found here in the “Use of Services” section.

Q: I want to be in the beta program. How do I sign up?

A: We’re glad you’re interested! Please follow these instructions to join the MGS Beta Program:

  1. Go to: https://connect.microsoft.com/directory/non-feedback/entertainment/. You will need to sign in using a valid Windows Live ID and register on Connect if you have not already done so.
  2. Locate Microsoft Game Studios Beta Program and click Apply under Your Status.
  3. Complete the application questionnaire.

Q: What countries can participate in MGS Betas?

A: We encourage people from all over the world to sign up! However, some countries may not be able to participate in betas that require LIVE service, and certain betas may only allow specific locations to participate. Please click here for a list of countries and regions that have LIVE service.

The MGS Beta Program can only provide support in the English language.

Q: What will I do in the MGS Beta Program?

A: The Beta Program is a non-employment opportunity that you can do from the comfort of your own home. It is an opportunity to play our games before everyone else and to help us fix bugs to make the games as fun as possible for their official release. When a beta becomes available, we will e-mail qualified applicants an invitation to beta test the game. If you respond to the invitation and are selected to join the beta, you will be sent all the information you need to get started, including instructions for downloading the game to your Xbox 360 or PC.

Q: I have a question about a beta or Dashboard preview from Xbox Live.

A: Xbox Live dashboard previews and betas are not part of the Microsoft Game Studios Beta Program. If you are participating in an Xbox Live preview and have questions or issues, you may be able to contact the Xbox team through Connect. After signing into your Connect account, go to this link: https://connect.microsoft.com/help/selectprogram.aspx

If you can find the Xbox program listed there, click the link to send them a message. The Microsoft Game Studios Beta Program is a separate program and cannot answer questions about or provide support for the Xbox dashboard previews and betas.

Q: I registered a while ago, but I haven’t been invited to a beta yet. What can I do to get invited?

A: We’re sorry to keep you waiting! If you have not yet been invited to a beta, it is likely for one of the following reasons:

  • We may not have any active betas
  • You may not qualify for any of the current betas
  • Your contact information may not be up-to-date

Each of our game betas has its own requirements for beta participation, such as age, location, or experience with certain types of games. One of the best things you can do to ensure you’re selected for available betas is to keep your profile information up-to-date. To update your profile, go to the MGS Betas home page, and then find your Personal Profile Survey in the Surveys box. Click Edit to update your information.

Q: I want to work for MGS! What about paid game testing jobs? Can I send you my resume?

A: We appreciate your interest in working for Microsoft Game Studios. The MGS Beta Program does not have paid game testers or quality assurance staff, so please do not send your resume to us. If you are interested in paid jobs with MGS, you should apply online at the Microsoft Careers website. Once you have created an account and signed in, you can create and edit a personal profile, save resumes and CVs, and apply for available positions. There are several games-related positions posted there right now. You might also check with staffing agencies that partner with Microsoft if you are specifically interested in contract game tester and quality assurance positions. If you are currently attending or recently graduated from a university, you may be interested in the internships and full-time positions at the Microsoft Careers Students & Graduates website.

Q: When are you going to make another [insert my favorite MGS game here]?

A: We appreciate your interest in our games, but we cannot give out information about upcoming titles until they are officially announced to the public. Stay tuned to announcements from Xbox and Microsoft Game Studios to find out more about future games.
