Cannot use a UNC path in Compare-VM and set the ComputerName to "." or "localhost" without a failure
11/4/2013 6:10:50 AM
User(s) can reproduce this bug
Passing in a UNC path when using the command "Compare-VM -GenerateNewId -Copy -Path," you cannot also specify the ComputerName parameter as "." or "localhost" without the error "The operation failed because the file was not found."
How often does this happen?
Have you seen this problem before in this product?
I do not know if this issue existed previously
First, let's assume I have a VM configuration file in c:\tmp\C78B6DFD-71BC-4CD7-9571-2A4F857E7AE4.xml and the same file in some scratch share \\files\scratch
Run the command
> Compare-VM -GenerateNewId -Copy -Path \\files\scratch\C78B6DFD-71BC-4CD7-9571-2A4F857E7AE4.xml
This gives a Compare-VM report as a result. However, the command
> Compare-VM -GenerateNewId -Copy -Path \\files\scratch\C78B6DFD-71BC-4CD7-9571-2A4F857E7AE4.xml -ComputerName "."
yields the error that "The operation failed because the file was not found."
The documentation states passing in "." or "localhost" for ComputerName should be same as not specifying it at all.
