R2 : Unhandled exception on Utility Explorer's Storage Utilization tab
9/2/2009 3:50:42 PM
Primary Feedback Item:
User(s) can reproduce this bug
I just got an unhandled exception drilling into Utility > Managed Instances > Storage Utilization.
SQL Server 2008 R2 August CTP
Tools (SSMS, Agent, Profiler, etc.)
Windows Server 2008
Operating System Language
Steps to Reproduce
Set up a Utility Control Point, add multiple instances. Let the MDW collection job run once. Open Utility Explorer, highlight Managed Instances, and on the right side, switch to the "Storage Utilization" tab for the Control Point instance.
Unhandled exception : Object cannot be cast from DBNull to other types. You can see a screen shot here:
Also if you choose "Continue" and then switch to another tab and then back to the Storage Utilization tab, switching the "Group files by:" radio button to "Volume" yields an error message:
"Input string was not in a correct format. (mscorlib)"
Switching back to "Database" yields an error message much like the unhandled exception, but now it is behaving a *little* better at least.
"Object cannot be cast from DBNull to other types. (mscorlib)"
No unhandled exceptions. Use TRY/CATCH please! And handling the "no data available" scenario should be much more graceful.
