Using 2008 SSMS to script tables from a SQL 2000 server is incredibly slow by john_s50

It appears to script permissions for each column for each individual user.
It is so slow it is unusable.

Tools (SSMS, Agent, Profiler, etc.)

Windows Server 2008

US English

In SSMS object explorer connected to a SQL2000 server, right click the database.
select tasks / generate scripts
select next
set 'script object-level permissions' to true
select next
check tables
select next
check one table
select next
script to new query window
select next
select finish

It sits there saying it is scripting.

create a script in a few seconds

How about setting 'script object-level permissions' to false?

Um, I want object level permissions.
In SQL2000, it scripts the table with select, update, etc permissions to a group.
It is 1 line per group.
In 2008, it scripts 1 line per role per function (i.e. 1 line for select, 1 line for update, etc).
Then it scripts 1 line per role per column.
If you have many logins and many columns, it will never return.

And as a side note:
patient: it hurts when I move my arm like this
doctor: don't move your arm like that
That's not really a reasonable workaround.

I wasn't suggesting that as a *solution* but as a *workaround*. You can script object-level permissions separately, no?
