I'm sorry for the delayed response. We tried to repro this in house and were not successful. We hope you have gotten past this issue but if its still a problem and you have details on how we can repro please share them with us.

Thanks,

Amy Lewis

That is correct. On a couple of windows 2003 sp2, all patches applied and SQL Server 2005 SP2 with hotfix Default instances services are not showing up under configuration Manager. Named instances do show up. I tried to duplicate the setup on vista but all (default and named) showed up.

Hello -

Can you clarify your situation? I believe you are saying that your services do not show up in Configuration Manager for your default instance on Windows 2003 after you install SP2. In other words you were able to see your services for the default instance when running RTM. And you were able to see your services on Vista w/ SP2 and you are able to see your named instances Services in all scenarios?

Thanks,

Amy Lewis (amylewis@microsoft.com)

After installing the same build (9.00.1399.06)on a vista OS, after reboot the service was still there. Could the cause be from a server 2003 update?

After upgrades it is Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 - (9.00.3042.00) Developer Edition SP2. When I first install it before any updates it's (9.00.1399.06) Developer Edition RTM. Right after install the services show up in configuration manager, when I reboot the default instance disappers from the Configuration manager. Only named instances appear.

Are you running Gold (RTM) build 1399 or higher? We have a similar issue on a server that was upgraded from build 3152 to build 3159 using Microsoft Update.
