Description

Katmai June CTP

If Windows Installer 3.1 is not present, Katmai setup says "To proceed, download and install the Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50380 , and then run SQL Server Setup again."

There is nothing at that URL, and this page loads: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?displaylang=en

SQL Server Setup has detected that the following required component is not installed: Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1. To proceed, download and install the Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50380 , and then run SQL Server Setup again.

Steve -

Sorry for the long delay in my response - we have tracked down the issue and will fix the link.

Thanks for your feedback.

1. Maybe it works from Redmond, but it doesn't work from New
Jersey. If I try to visit

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50380

I am redirected to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?displaylang=en
just as I noted in my Connect feedback item.

2. I now see that MSI 3.1 is in the image, so for future CTPs,
please change the message to tell people that instead of posting
an external link that causes so much runaround.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi -

Thank you for your feedback - when I try the link today it works great. So I believe this was a temporary issue. Also the MSI 3.1 is included in our image so you don't have to download to install.

Thanks,
