Hi,

I have had a similar issue with this. I was trying to install SQL Server 2008 Standard x32 on Windows 2008 Server Standard SP2. During the SQL install I received error messages but the SQL install seemed to complete and even though it stated SQL had installed with errors I could still open SSMS and connect to databases.

However when I tried to install SP1 for SQL2008 I would get an error (SQL_Powershell_Engine_CNS) I then tried to repair the SQL Install however this would also fail stating that windows powershell had not installed. So I installed Windows Powershell, then tried to repair again, no joy.

I then uninstalled SQL 2008 rebooted and installed again. This was successful, the only change I made on the 2nd try sql install that was different the first was in regard to Reporting Services. 1st install I stated "install Reporting Services but do not configure" On the 2nd (successful SQL install) I selected "install AND configure reporting services". SQL install and SP1 install both successful.

Not sure if this helps any but I could not find any solutions online for this error.

Regards

fc

I'm generating the following error installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows Vista Ultimate SP2: "Setup failed to install Windows PowerShell. Error code is 2"

I have logs from the following location available: %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\

Installing SQL Server 8 recieved the following error Setup failed to install Windows Powershell error code 1603

We are also seeing this issue: windows 2008 standard server with sql 2008 standard installed (only database and reporting + management studio)

>> Setup failed to install Windows PowerShell. Error code is 1000

Studio and database loads, but I can not install SP1 for Sql2008;

Did a repair, but this did not help anything. MAchine is clean, sql is the first thing to be installed (after some iis7 and ftp 7.5 stuff).

I was able to validate that the error occurs in my environment too. (I commented on it in the Validation section.)

If you like I can upload the zipped log directory somewhere.
