I have not been able to isolate a partitular type of process that yeilds concistent behavior.

Hi, please follow up with customer support team if you would like the fix for this issue ported to a previous release. This is not something we can handle through Connect items.

With R2 SP1, still happens. Please include this in a fix.

Hello,

We have found the problem and have been able to come up with a fix for this problem. You will see this fix in the SQL Server Codename Denali RTM release.

Thanks,

This error comes on and off. 80% of times when I process the entire database I do get the process progress window working but 20% of the times it fails.

Thanks a lot pfelix for reporting the problem.

Unfortunately it is really hard to reproduce and figure out the root cause of it.
Please post it here or open a new connect issue if you can constently reproduce it.

I have seen this on Win 7 64bit as well. Usually after I have been running for a while. This is an issue during development when trying troubleshoot processing issues.

Hello
Same BIG issue with 2008 R2 ....

Same issue here on Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008R2 Enterprise 64 bit.

Same issue here - SS08R2-64bit win7 Ent 64bit - no details listed in the Process Progress window at all - whether I process a dimension or partition. This is a pretty significant problem.

I am also experiencing this problem on a 64 bit SQL 2008 R2 standard edition. I've worked on several other installations without this error. I've migrated the SSAS databases to new drives/folders, perhaps this is the cause of the error?

This happens to me, SQL 2008 R2 on Windows 7 Enterprise x64.

started getting the same thing happening from a server. The status bar will display fairly useful messages however nothing is displayed in the window above. The Trace Information is never copied and you have to click "Stop" before being able to click "Close".

This is particularly problematic when trying to see why something has failed, although when you click it will display the last error, which may not be the actual bug.

Same bug for me. Windows Enterprise 64, 2008 R2 with VS2010 installed.

Same bug for me, running 2008R2 Enterprise 64. It is intermittent but it seems to affect some AS Databases more than others. It is especially noticeable on large databases. No workaround, it remains blank whether I process from VS Studio or from BIDS.

I have also exactly the same issue. Unfortunately this bug R2 impact my 2008 version too. It's impossible to uninstall R2 only because the broken component remains installed in place of the 2008 one, so it's very important to have a bug fix for me, I consultant and trainer on SSAS and it's a pity to make demo without the capability to display correctly the process progress screen.

This bug is annoying to say the least, especially since it seems to be of an intermittent nature. I would hope that if MS have identified the problem, they will not only fix it in the latest release, but will also provide a patch to previous versions (SSAS 2008).

The one workaround I have found is to begin processing and if no data begins to flow in the Process Progress window, to hit "Stop", wait a minute and hit "Reprocess"...usually doing this 2 or 3 times will get the Process Progress screen to flow with data relevant to the current build.

I see one workaround i.e. restarting Analysis services.
