Workaround(s)
When I right-click inside a query window and choose Change Connection, I am offered a list of servers I have manually typed in the Connect To dialog. This can be annoying as they are quite often servers that have a friendlier name in my registered servers tree (so now I have to remember what IP address is behind my friendly name), never mind that entries can appear twice if I used SQL auth one day and Windows auth another - but there is no way to tell in the list which is which until you select it.

Even more annoying is that if I have several SQL auth servers that I connect to, and they all use the same login and password, when I change the server field, the password box blanks out - even if I checked Remember Password the last time I did this.

Proposed Solution

What I'd like to see is an option here to, instead of pulling an IP address/server name from a long MRU list, select an existing registered server (with a friendly name). This would make things more intuitive and also avoid having to re-type passwords multiple times. I don't have to type a password when I right-click a registered server, why do I have to when using Change Connection (unless the server I want happens to be the first in the list, and SSMS has decided to actually remember my password this time)?

Greetings from the SQL Server Manageability team.

Thanks for writing in to Microsoft. We greatly value your feedback.

However, given the work that would be involved in implementing this work, and triaging against our current set of deliverables, we do not think, we would be able to get to this in the near future.

Having said that, we value your suggestions, and would like to assure you that, we would keep these ideas in mind, when we do revisit this feature in the future.

Regards
