Description

Downloaded and installed SQL Sever Compact 4.0 from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=033cfb76-5382-44fb-bc7e-b3c8174832e2

Tried to create a new database through Visual Studio Server Explorer.
Available options still say SQL Server Compact 3.5

UPDATE:
Installed "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0" using Web Platform Installer. Now visual Studio provides option to create SQL COmpact 4.0 database.

Before installing "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0" I could not see System.Data.SqlServerCe version 4.0 in GAC (Right click project -> Add Reference -> .Net tab). After installing "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0", I can see both 3.5 and 4.0 versions in GAC.

Hello,

The Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0 MSI makes registry entries in the Visual Studio 2010 SP1 hive to show the SQL Server Compact 4.0 ADO.NET provider in the Add Reference dialog. This is the reason that the Compact 4.0 provider does not show up in the Add Reference tab until the Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0 MSI is installed. As a workaround one can browse to %Program File%\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v4.0\Desktop to add a reference to the System.Data.SqlServerCe.

I have VS 2010 Pro SP1 installed. I can click "Add".."New Item" and select "SQL Server Compact 4.0 Local Database" to create a database. The problem is when I add a new data source, there is no selection for Microsoft SQL Server Compact 4.0--only 3.5. The Web Platform Installer 3.0 does not show "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Tools for SQL Server Compact 4.0".
