Description

I was typing in a query window (I only had three query windows open at the time, on a system with 8 cores and 16 GB RAM), and the application crashed. Note that this is RTM even though the product version drop down says RC0. It is also on Windows 8, which isn't a choice yet for the operating system drop down.

Here is the XML from the two events in the event viewer:

Hello,

We will be closing this ticket as updating to SP1 seems to solve the issue. If you still have the crash occur after updating to SP1 please update this ticket and we will re-open for investigation.

Hello Aaron,

Thanks for the attached dump. I'll start looking through that now to see what I can find.

In the meantime VidhyaSagar posted that upgrading to SP1 seemed to solve the issue for him, could you let me know whether doing this solves the issue for you as well?

I'm on Win7 - which may explain why my log entries have ntdll.dll data. But I have the exact same symptoms for the same .NET version and ssms version.

Can happen on launch, before even one query tab is opened or after hours. I havn't found reproducible steps - but it happens many times in a single day.

I had similar issue on Windows 8. When I try to analyze plan cache option in DTA (database tuning advisor) it's getting crashed with the similar error. Last month SP1 is released for SQL Server 2012 so after applying it issue got resolved. If you face similar error, update service pack 1 and then give a try.

Cheers
