Description

I am developing using Visual Studio 2008 Professional and SQL Server Express 2012. I have been using Visual Studio 2008 for the last 30 days with no issues when attempting to open a project using windows explorer. About 7 days ago I installed SQL Server Express 2012 as I had a project that required some database administration. After installing just the "SQL Server Managament Studio" I am now unable to browse to any solution file (.sln) using windows explorer and open a proejct. I am now greated with a splash screen that states "Invalid License Data. Reinstall is Required"

Actually I found that removal, then downloading and installing the Sql Server Data tools corrected this problem for me.

If the Sql Server Data Tools are already installed, just remove them. If not installed, install the downloaded package.

Restart. (It might not be required, but I'd recommend it in this case.)

I located this issue posted with a resolution after some searching. Basically reinstall sql server data tools, It hasn't helped me yet, but it might help some of the other people who have run into issues.

I have tried reinstalling SQL Server Express 2012 - it did not help.

Hello XXXXX. Thank you for reporting this problem to us. However, we have been unable to reproduce the behavior locally. We will be closing the issue as a “no repro.” We have also suggested a small correction that may resolve the issue. If anyone is still having trouble with this, please get back to us so we can reactivate the item. -Walter A Jokiel, Program Manager, SQL Server (wajokiel@microsoft.com)

Hello All,

If you right-click on the *.sln file and select "Properties" what does it say next to "Opens with:" in the dialog that pops up?

It should be the "Microsoft Visual Studio Version Selector", if that is not the case click the "Change..." button next to it and select the Version Selector from the list displayed (it should be pre-populated in the Recommended Programs section).

Thanks,

I also have this issue after installing SQL Server Management tools 2012.

Steps to reproduce

Install vs 2012
Opening sln from explorer works ok
Install SQL Management tools 2012
Opening sln from explorer tries to use VS 2010 and shows "Invalid License Data. Reinstall is Required"

Other info:
Programfiles(x86) contains Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0 and Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0 even though VS 2012 was only installed.
