Workaround(s)
Provide option for auto connect in Object Explorer for default engine.

Option for auto connect to SSAS, SSIS, SSRS & Azure.

Hi Kalman
Thanks for writing in. This is actually by design. Some of the the reasoning is: if you had more than a few databases, SSMS would appear to be hung while starting up. Also, doing this would make it hard to use if passwords or other environmental changes happened. At this time, we are not planning on changing the design.
