Wouldn't it not be furth to allow a table to be stored in columns rather then in rows directly when creating the table?

Even without compression it would be usefull to store data on column basis in pages.
Some examples of stuff that would be lot's faster:
drop of a column, update of 1 columns for all rows in table (less pages fetched),
altering the size of a column(would only inflict own pages),

Would be really handy for Datawarehouses.

Thank you for submitting this feedback. After carefully evaluating all of the bugs in our pipeline, we are closing bugs that we will not fix in the current or future versions of SQL Server.
