Description

In SQL Server 2012, you are not able to create a synonym on top of a sequence. When sequences are associated with a specific schema, this would be helpful, as most other objects you are able to use this functionality.

Thanks

This would be useful if you want to change the name of a sequence without requiring an application change. Our app supports Oracle and Sql Server, and I'm using an Oracle synonym to minimize down time as we change a sequence name in Oracle (we use identities in the Sql Server variant of our app, so for now it's not an issue there). I know you guys are busy, I'm still going to put in a vote for this one.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. Since other object types can have 3 or 4 part names, we prioritized supporting synonyms. Since sequences are usually 1-2 part names, our recommendation is to try to align this with the naming scheme being used for the rest of the synonyms. Given our current set of prioritizations, we unfortunately won't be able prioritize adding this so resolving this connect item.
