Workaround(s)
As Power View (Excel 2013) relies on Bing map, inherently it relies on internet connection availability. When internet connection is lost the map feature within Power View displays an error and no map is being rendered.

The error message is:
Bing error: Map tiles not found. A connection to Bing could not be established

Proposed Solution

Offering true self-service BI should also mean catering for possibilities that internet connection is lost or unavailable. In such cases, it would be a good idea for being able to cache the map, or at least a snapshot of the last view.
