Workaround(s)
As developer, my team regularly drops and recreates our local databases from scripts to create fresh data. However, I just added a bunch of database diagrams to our database and I do not want to lose them. Also, I do not want to add them to the database creation scripts (if that's even possible) because then they will go to production and I do not want them there.

Proposed Solution

It would be much more appropriate if I was able to save my diagram to a file and just attach it to whatever database I wanted to when I wanted to make changes. It would need to fail gracefully and/or ask me if I wanted to update the diagram if the underlying objects could not be found. It would also be great if I could open the file while disconnected from a database in a readonly view or something.

Primary Benefit

Faster Development

Other Benefits

Faster Development because I would not have to recreate my diagrams every time I recreate the database.

Virtualization

Hi!, thanks for writing in to Microsoft.

We took a look at this feature request and triaged it against several others and unfortunately, it did not meet the bar to be fixed. While we are closing this issue as 'won't fix', we have taken note of this internally and we will try & incorporate this request when we revisit this functionality in a future release of SSMS.
