Description

Hi, when we perform a failover in a SQL2012 multisubnet cluster we always get the error message in the Windows Failover Cluster event log that the IP Address from Node A failed on Node B and vice versa:

"resource 'TCLUK1WSQA100_10.222.3.112' in clustered service or application 'TCLUK1WSQA100' failed."

Due to the Multisubnet Cluster it makes perfect sense that the IP from Network A cannot come online in Network B so why do we get an error message here? Is there a way to suppress the event logs as the monitoring should only alert in case of real errors.

Is it ok(supported) to take out the possible owners in the IP Address resource? (By Default both nodes are possible owners of each IP address. ) Problem here is that we get a bunch of warnings in the cluster debug log.

(BTW we use OR Dependency so the service and failover works well, its just the logging that should be improved.)

Thanks!

Hi Lukas,

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately we cannot change the behavior in the coming release because of the low priority of this issue. I am resolving this issue as won't fix and will track it for feature release.

As a workaround, it's totally fine to remove the node which cannot own the IP Address from the possible owners list. It's a supported scenario.
