Workaround(s)
When oledb32.dll is for some reason unregistered SQL Server is missing providers after installation.
During installation of SQL server there is no message in the user interface or in the installation log that dll is not registered
When the oledb32.dll provider is not registered it's not possible to connect to SQL Server with eg. visual studio, excel etc.
It's also not possible to make a linked server connection via server objects

Proposed Solution

Check the registration of the oledb32.dll during the sql setup and respond with a message if not registered.
This can explain the missing providers under server objects and the connection problems with other products.

Primary Benefit

Improved Installation

Other Benefits

faster problem solving

Virtualization
