Description

Data Alerts in SharePoint Integrated mode and Data Driven subscription in Native mode do not send email when SMTP of Gmail. Live.com are used.
The Installation of the Reporting Services are on SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 with RS in SharePoint Integrated mode.

SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2010 both enterprise evaluation.
The computer box is a laptop using Windows 7 Ultimate (x64bit).

Simple reports were generated using Report Builder and deployed to Native Mode Report Server or to SharePoint site documents' folder where RS type documents types were enabled.
Send alerts by email failed.

The outlook.com account configured and using the SMTP.live.com properly configured to send emails from a 'FROM" account were never sent.
The error is usually the following:

The important question that remains unanswered in the forums is: "Is it doable to use web mails SMTP for data alerts and data driven subscription?'

Hello,
Thank you for submitting this feedback. After carefully evaluating all of the bugs in our pipeline, we are closing bugs that we will not fix in the current or future versions of SQL Server. The reasons for closing these bugs are following:
1.     The fix is risky to implement in the current version of the product (service packs)
2.     Scenarios reported in the bug are not common enough
3.     A viable workaround is available
Thanks again for reporting the product issue and continued support in improving our product.

This is what I found to work; Using the smtp of email services such gmail, live and yahoo does not work. Microsoft Documentation should have mentioned this. The outlook.com's settings give one a feeling that it can be used (smtp server, port, username, password, ssl/tls enabling). But it will not work. You get the above error.

Whaat works is this:

use your ISP's SMTP server and an email address with the ISP for which you have set up password, or use the SMTP server of your enterprise.
