Description

This is the same as the issue
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/294404/add-table-restore-from-backups

We require occasional object level restores from backup, but the process for this at the moment is extremely cumbersome at present.

Thanks for your suggestion, but that is not an area that we are currently investing in.

Completely agree: with ORACLE having had the EXPORT/IMPORT feature for over a DECADE, to see SQL Server this far behind on a fundamental usability feature is disappointing.

In my case, the main data table is over 250GB but the reference data is under 2 MB. All I need are the 20,000 reference records and I could leave the 4 BILLION rows of data behind if this feature were a reality!

The other issue cited is "Closed - won't fix" as of 2007, with a note to say that Microsoft will consider it for a future release. FIVE+ years along and maybe its time has come (hope springs eternal, they say)...

As Umachandar already pointed out on another feature request, as of June 2013 Microsoft is NOT considering investing significantly in the T-SQL Engine. I hope THIS feature doesn't come under the same axe...

IMO, SQL Server should be at least as good as and certainly better than Oracle in terms of usability and ANSI support. Such investment should be high on the MS list, I'd think.
