I'd like the capability to have a SQL Server deduplicate backup. This backup type would enable me to recover databases in a more timely fashion - refresh databases more efficiently and possibly leverage snapshot backups at both the server and SQL Instance level.

For the next release of SQL Server it would be ideal to have block level (Dedupe) backups. This would really align well with the Cloud storage for backups and would make them much faster. The DPM product is wonderful, but is separate from the SQL management tools. It feels like there could be some integration between these products to really set SQL Backups apart from the competition as well as open opportunities to streaming backups to Cloud storage or on prem.

Thanks for your suggestion, but that is not an area that we are currently investing in.
You may want to investigate Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager, which does block-level backups of SQL Server databases, including de-duplication.
