Description

We have more than 100 Excel/PowerPivot workbooks which need to have a PowerPivot Data refresh set. I could do it manually, but that will cost me a lot of time.

Everytime when we create a new Excel sheet we have to set the Data Refresh as well. Therefore it would a huge time saver when we can perform such a task programmatically.

Dear Daniel,

Thank you very much for submitting your suggestion to improve the Data Refresh facility for PowerPivot in SharePoint. Unfortunately, however, there are currently no plans to implement or support this functionality. Scheduled Data Refresh would require a full redesign to accomplish this without overwhelming server resources and bringing the backend down. In SharePoint 2013, we simplified the PowerPivot Scheduled Data Refresh design to make it possible to run a refresh on demand by simply setting the date and time values in the WorkQ table to the current date and time. PowerPivot would process the affected workbook accordingly, but note that I do not recommend using this option. Refreshing massive amounts of workbooks is going to consume the server resources. Eventually, refresh will just fail because the backend can no longer fit more workbooks into memory. PowerPivot is an in-memory technology.
Because there no current plans to implement this functionality, I’m closing this Connect item.
Thanks again for your feedback. We will revisit this suggestion again in the future.
Cheers,
Kay
