Description

SELECT INTO statement fails when an Identity column which is also the Primary key is included in the SELECT list.

This a very critical feature that most of existing code and SPs use. While using TOP function sometime helps solve this. This workaround is not consistent. In other words, the use of TOP sometime works and sometimes not.

Until the issue is fixed you can use the following workaround:
-- Set remote query timeout to something different than 0.
sp_configure 'remote query timeout (s)', 600
go
reconfigure
go
