User(s) can reproduce this bug
When I try to change a control's ID in Design view of an asp.net page, I get the following error:

"The directory name is invalid."

The following appears in my output window:

Compiling project 'C:\Documents and Settings\tothad\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\WebsiteCache\EMI\Refactor\1_App_Code.dll' for refactoring
error CS0006: Metadata file 'C:\Documents and Settings\tothad\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\WebsiteCache\EMI\Refactor\1_App_Code.dll' could not be found

This is on a project that I've opened from VSS using the Open > Website > Source Control option.

This issue has been reactivated as we begin planning for the next version of Visual Studio and the .NET Framework. Over the coming months we will reconsider feedback that was previously postponed. We welcome your comments and participation in this process. See http://blogs.msdn.com/productfeedback/archive/2005/10/21/483563.aspx for more information.

This appears to be related to an issue that we had with having multiple instances of the IDE open at the same time.
