Description

Hello,

I thought the Linq to SQL Query Visualizer had been reintroduced into Beta 2 however I cannot find it. There is no magnifying class when you hover over a query result. Just the sql query as a string.

I have attached a screenshot of what I get.

Thanks
Ben Hall

Ben,

Thank you for taking the time to try out new LINQ to SQL feature in beta2 and providing feedback. The query visualizer is a sample that is available in source form in a zip file that is installed for all SKUs exception Visual Studio Express. The visualizer project and sources are in Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Samples\1033\CSharpSamples.zip

After extracting the files, you can use Visual Studio 2008 beta2 to build visualizer DLL and install the DLL in either the machine-wide or user-specific visualizers directory.

Thanks again for trying and giving feedback.

The SQL Query Visualizer (and Expression Tree Visualizer) CSharpSamples.zip and VBSamples.zip files are in the \Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Sample Files\1033 folder. You can expand these zip files to any location you want, but be sure the Use Folder Names check box is marked.

Howevever the Readme.htm files have the wrong location for deploying visualizer libraries (which I've reported today as a bug). Scott Guthrie gives the correct location in yesterday's post (http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/07/31/linq-to-sql-debug-visualizer.aspx)

Scott Guthrie explains here how to enable the LINQ to SQL Query Visualizer:
