On the side panel of Visual Studio such as Toolbox, Solution Explorer, Server Explore, Output, etc., you have positioning options of Float, Dock, Hide, etc. My suggestion is to add a Lock Panel option as well. This will allow the panels to be locked and help against the somewhat tedious task of accidentally dragging, dropping, rearranging or misplacing them. When the panel is locked it cannot be moved or resized. This can help developers create their perfect workspace without worrying of accidental panel misplacement.

Alternative solution might be that on the bottom status bar of Visual Studio you can add a lock icon, by clicking on it get a menu where you can choose to lock panels, lock toolbars or lock all.

Please don't forget the fact that panels/toolbars change when debugging, so please take it into consideration to have two separate sets of locking routines. The lock icon menu can either switch between editing and debugging to reflect the different workspaces or offer both options in editing mode.

Thanks for your feedback,

This is an interesting suggestion; we are collecting ideas around workspace improvement s for the next release (post Visual Studio 2010) this suggestion has been added to the collection which we will be reviewing as part of our planning process for future releases.

Thanks for your time,
