User(s) can reproduce this bug
Hovering with the mouse across the Toolbars of Visual Studio 2010 there's not a single toolbar button displaying its corresponding shortcut in the Tool-Tip text.

This becomes particularly annoying when an Internet Explorer window is displayed in Visual Studio. None of the standard shortcut key combinations work within Visual Studio and it's not possible to find out what the actual keyboard combinations are.

Great! Thanks, Susanne!

I'm looking forward to the RTM version then.

Hello Axel,

I wanted to send you an update - we received sufficient feedback requesting this feature that we have made a change so that toolbar tooltips now show the shortcut by default. (There is no option to turn off the display of shortcuts.) You will see the results of this fix in the Visual Studio 2010 RC/RTM release. I will be re-resolving this bug as "Fixed." Thank you again for taking the time to send us your feedback!

Thanks,

This feature is very important to me as well. I really like the fact that the keyboard shortcuts appear on the toolbar buttons. Often I will change around toolbars and add functionatlity to the the toolbar that was not part of the original installation. It helps me to know what the shortcut is so that I can train myself to use the keyboard shortcut and also when I add my own toolbar buttons representing macros so that I can remember what they were when I need them again.

Hi Suzanne,

thank you for taking the time.

Sorry for my apparently misleading abbreviation. I just meant the toolbar buttons when I wrote about buttons.

I would appreciate if a couple of my suggestions/reports would find their way into VS then.

Best regard,

Hello Axel,

Thanks for taking the time to send us feedback on Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1.

When we switched over to the new WPF-based shell, we ended up cutting a few features that were available in Visual Studio 2008. (For reference, in Visual Studio 2008, the option to display shortcut keys for tooltips is available through the Tools -> Customize menu option, and then selecting the Toolbars tab. The “Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips” setting is the option that is being referring to.)

In Visual Studio 2010, it was decided that we would make all shortcut keys visible for menu items, but not for toolbar buttons, since people weren’t using that setting as much. (Toolbar items will just display the name of the command in the tooltip.) Getting this feedback from you is important, and it tells me that we need to revisit this decision for a future release. I’m going to resolve this bug as postponed since we’re locking down on feature changes to Visual Studio at this point in the product cycle, but I will make a note of this request in our feature backlog for future release planning.

I took a look at the screenshot attached to this bug, and I see tooltips for the toolbar buttons, but the tooltips are just showing the command name. (Which is the current design.) Can you clarify what you mean when you said that you don’t see tooltips on any button?

Thanks,
Suzanne Hansen, Program Manager, Visual Studio Platform Shell Team

Hi,

this is strange... Because I don't have tooltips on any button. I've attached a screenshot so you can see for yourself.

Hello

Thanks for your feedback. But we could not reproduce this issue in our lab. Please see attached snapshot_kylin.png. Could you please provide us with snapshots on this issue? And we will re-investigate.

Thanks,
Kylin.Ming
