Provide the ability to share files across multiple projects in the same manner as was previously available through Visual SourceSafe to prevent duplication/redundancy in the source control repository for file contents which may be shared across multiple team projects.

To share or not to share ?
let us, the developers and the configuration managers, to decide !
the responsibility for our source code integrity is ours.
we want to decide what needs to be sharing and what to branch.
even Subversion do that. in its "unique" way.
please, bring back our share. sp2 for tfs 2010 would be fine.

Is there an update on this? It would be very beneficial to us as well. We recently switched from Serena Dimensions to TFS 2010 (Scrum templates) and we like the product, but this is one update we would VERY much like to have in the next version of TFS.

And there is no workaround? Branching isn't the same thing. Period.

I'm quite annoyed by this relatively simple feature thats quite useful in some cases that's been in VSS forever simply "doesn't exist.... tough". Do you want us to move to TFS or not???

Thanks for the suggestion to add an equivalent to the sharing feature in TFS. We've heard this ask from other former VSS users in the past, and it is something we're tracking on our backlog. In most cases, we suggest to use branching in TFS, but there are definitely some scenarios in which the sharing feautre is useful, lightweight, and cheap. We'll be sure to consider this as we plan for our next release.
