It is certainly interesting to think about pluggable compilation steps. An interesting model is Java's annotation processing tool, which let's user code in the build process examine an object model of the code, including "annotations" (= attributes), and generate new source code based on that. You can imagine other models too.

We are not currently investing directly in this kind of tool, but we may focus on it in the future. For now we are trying to bring our compiler code based into an API that exposes a managed object model - this may take a couple of releases in itself. From there however we have a better shot at extending the code generation model.
