We have upgraded our large solution from VS2008 to VS2010. The upgrade goes through fine. Everything compiles and behaves as expected.

Except if we goto File -> Close Solution or just click the "X" on the titlebar of the IDE, it will crash.

This is a pretty big issue considering we have to swap between solutions a few times per day. And the fact that the IDE can never close our solution gracefully and cleanly. It always results in a crash.

Hi, given that we have not heard back from you in 7 days. We will go ahead and close this Connect Issue. If you get a chance to review and provide the information requested earlier, you can go ahead and reactivate this issue. (Click “Edit this item” button on the site and change the “Status” to “Active”)

Unfortunately, the solution file won't help. We need the full project. If you cannot share it, we'd at least like to know how big it is? What type of the project?
It may help if you provide us with detailed repro steps - for example, 1. open the solution; 2. open a source file. 3. close the solution. 4. observe crash.

I've uploaded to that site, as requested. Thanks.

Hi NathanE,

Thanks again for your feedback.
But we cannot find the .sln file you attached.
Could you please upload it to the following workspace:

I have attached to this ticket our .sln file that causes the issue for us once upgraded to VS2010. Please note that the .sln file is currently in VS2008 format.

Thank you.

After in-depth investigation, we identified the problem in the code however in order to make sure the fix corrects the problem, we need to reproduce the issue first. Unfortunately, we are unable to reproduce this in house, could you send us a repro solution that can be used to verify the fix?

I originally posted on the https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/552998/exception-on-closing-vs-2010 issue as I believed they were the same. But it turns out that this crash is a separate issue entirely. Therefore I have opened a new issue.

This is a major blocking issue for us. It is preventing us from completing our roadmapped transition to VS2010.

I have attached a crash dump of the VS IDE.

The crash appears to originate from a Visual Studio "Shell" related DLL file. So appears to be non-language specific.
