If you give a SP Farm account that starts with - the installer fails. Our "service" accounts are prefixed with -svc-, so when we used an account like -svc-SPFarm and tried to install it failed. It looks like the argument is not surrounded by quotes so stsadm thinks the account is a command line switch.
