Unable to Install Visual Studio 12 Update 1 by Rob Crockett

Description

From 3 separate machines the install fails to find the source for CAB8.cab and prompts the user. This happens on both with and without layout. We have tested this on 3 machines all of which have VS 2010 and VS 2012 installed, along with .net 4. 2 machines are Windows Server 2008 R2 and one is Windows 7 Pro. The log file does not show any errors it just prompts for the file:

is there any solution to this problem yet? i have tried since 29.11 to install Update 1, i get's the errory cab8.cab everytime. i ran collect.exe, you can take a look on vslogs.cab
a possible reason for the problem could be the use of two accounts, a accout without admin but with internet and a account with admin but without internet. in organisations going through security-audit's it's not common to have a admin-account with the possibility to use internet. you are working with the normal account without admin and wenn you need admin you use the admin-account. for instance to run collect.exe. have you tried to do the download in this way?

I am having the same issue on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. For me it just runs unchanged for hours at "acquiring KB2707250". Since the installation does not end (Cancel runs forever as well), will there be installation logs to report? Should I end the process? How long should I let it run?

I am having same problem installing. Installation stops at unable to find cab8.cab file. Everything downloads fine up to that point. Worst is it corrupted my VS 2012 and i cannot open it up..

I also have problem in install VS 2012 Update 1. Looks like the installation program cannot find the file cab8.can and ask for a local path for that file. I am with Windows 8 and VS 2012 Premium.

I ran Collect.exe. I don't see any output from ti so I hope it sent you what you needed and you can associate that with this thread. Also here is a link to a discussion thread indicating that others are also experiencing this problem:

Thanks for reporting the issue.
In order to fix the issue, we must first reproduce the issue in our labs. We are unable to reproduce the issue with the steps you provided.

It may help if you provide us with:
a setup log file

You can get the log files with the following steps:
1) Download collect.exe from the link below. http://go.microsoft.com/?LinkId=8967043
2) You may choose to save the tool for later use, or to run directly.
3) The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the VS and .NET logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.
