Visual Studio/Team Foundation Server/.NET Framework Tooling Version

Visual Studio 2012

Steps to reproduce

Open few documents in visual studio. In one of the document print unique text (for instance 'unique') which does not exist in other documents. Select this text and open quick search dialog, select option all open documents. Then change selected text (for instance, print just 'uni') and select changed text. switch to another document and then return to original one. You will see that option in quick search dialog changed to selected. when you start to print something near text 'uni' you will see that this area is covered by light blue color and all new printed text will be covered by this color. when you again change document, you will see that quick search dialog disappeared.

This issue create small problem because I have to remember if I selected 1 or more lines in document. I think that dialog should switch automatically to 'selected'. I need to have choice to do it myself. Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for logging this issue. The appearance of the Quick Find control is tied to its scope. For scopes smaller than Current Document, such as Selection, the Quick Find control does not appear on other documents. In your rpero steps, as you have rightly observed, there is an active selection in the file which causes Find to switch its scope automatically, which is a convinience feature. This inturn causes it to not appear on other documents.

To make it appear on all documents, please change the scope to All Open Documents.

Thanks,
Murali
