I'm running Visual Studio 2012 Express for Desktop, update 1. I'm developing a WPF application. The xaml designer seems to crash frequently. I get a dialog pop up that simply says "Message" in the title. It has a red X icon but no other text is displayed. There is a button to dismiss the dialog but even the button has no text on it. I will attach a screenshot. When I look in Process Explorer this dialog is the process XDesProc.exe, spawned by WDExpress.exe.

I also frequently get a message in the xaml designer window itself saying the process has crashed with a link to restart it.

Finally, on a fairly frequent basis, all of Visual Studio will crash and need to be restarted.

The problem is random. There is no one particular xaml file that causes the problem, or any particular action that always causes the problems. After using VS for some period of time, usually an hour or more, then problems start to appear.

I shouldn't get VS or xaml designer crashes!

Could you please give us a dump file and call stack so that we can conduct further research?

Visual Studio now has an extension called Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Feedback Tool, available on the VS gallery(http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/f8a5aac8-0418-4f88-9d34-bdbe2c4cfe72).

The extension allows you to
1. upload files,
2. collect trace and dump files
3. collect steps while you're repro'ing the issue, as well as
4. SQM logs about VS extensions installed
5. System details (in DxDiag output)
