I was directed here by a moderator of that forum, so I apologize if this not the correct place to address this. It seems more an issue with MFC than Visual Studio. Also, I am using VS2010...not sure if MFC has changed between the two VS versions.

In a nutshell, the Automatic button on the CMFCRibbonColorButton (and CMFCColorButton) doesn't appear to work correctly. If you specify a color for the Automatic Color (non-system-default color), it is ignored when the Automatic color button is pressed.

Simplest would be to look at the StatusBarDemo app here:

Change one line in the view.cpp file in the OnInitialUpdate() method as follows:
// change auto color to 255 (red)
m_wndTextColor.EnableAutomaticButton (_T("Default"), 255 /*afxGlobalData.clrBtnText*/);

Build and run and make use of the Automatic Button on the above control.

when specifying a non-system-default color for the automatic button and pressing the automatic button, the m_Color member of the control is always set to (COLORREF)-1. Subsequent calls to GetColor() then return this value.

After pressing the Automatic button, calls to GetColor() should return the m_ColorAutomatic property value...not (COLORREF)-1.

I understand. Can you verify if this is still an issue in VS2012? I did not see it in the list of MFC bug fixes for VS 2012. I understand the posted list is not the entire list, but it would be nice to know...for me and it should concern your group also. Thanks.
