Weekly Scoop - October 12, 2007 - IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

Hi all, as it's Friday, time to update you on a bunch of things.
First, thank you all for testing the incremental update to 1.6 - you helped
us validate that we could release it to the public (which we did earlier
this week).
Second, you will notice that our download servers will be down on Monday,
October 15 for most of the day. This is preperation for (drum roll please)
the release to our Perpetual Beta Testers of Windows Live OneCare V2.0.
Sometime Monday night (Pacific time) or Tuesday, you should get an update to
the latest version of Windows Live OneCare. For those of you that were not
on the V2.0 public beta, here are some features you will now see:
. Multi-PC management. See and act on the PC health status of all PCs in
your "circle"
. Printer sharing. OneCare automatically shares printers to all PCs in your
circle that are on the same LAN.
. Centralized backup. Define a backup policy one time and it is stamped on
all PCs in your circle, with backup to one convenient central location.
. Online photo backup. Your most valuable digital possessions stored in the
cloud. (This feature will not be available to our Perpetual Beta testers
yet)
. Vista x64 support
. WiFi secure. Customer friendly flow for securing your home wireless
network and getting all PCs in your circle connected to it.
. Super Tuneup. Fix problems and suboptimal settings on your PC (like
clearing a clogged print queue)
. Network aware firewall. We now distinguish between public and private
networks.
. App cleaner. OneCare now detects infrequently used/low value applications
and gives you an easy set of steps to remove them from your PC.
. Subscription status information on the main page.
We have had over 100,000 beta testers in the public beta testing this
release - and about 20,000 have been active on any given day. We feel we
have gotten some great testing coverage "in the real world" and look forward
to your feedback and bugs if you find any.
I'd also like to thank Steven Boots for stopping in here in Redmond and
taking the time to be "the voice of the newsgroup".

beta testers!
