Favicons are not being displayed in the address bar drop down list

When clicking on the down arrow in the address bar to see the previous website addresses I have typed in I do not see the relevant favicons, be they customised to the site or the default IE placeholder for them. IE 7 used to do this. The drop down list now looks very bare and they should be displayed again. The favicon is displayed in the address bar when browsing sites normally.

Opening Favorites from the link crashes IE8

Whenever I click on the favorites icon (not favorites from the menu bar) IE8 crashes. Favorites from the menu bar works. Have tried in both IE8 standards compliance mode and also Emulate IE7 modes. I have enough favorites to where it scrolls off the screen and I think the rendering of this is what's causing the problem.

Quicktime installation fails or it's not clear how it should work

When trying to access a quicktime movie embedded in a web page, the Information Bar pops up to explain that the web page is trying to install the QuickTime player. I select the option to allow it to install, then I see a broken QuickTime icon and I get a dialog box saying that I need to go to the Apple web site to download QuickTime. When I click Yes to be directed to the Apple site, the dialog goes away, but I am not redirected.

When I click on the Page Options tab it does nothing, it will not open. I prefer to have the page in the wide page format, but, it appears that the IE8 page is set for narrow page by default. When I click on the Page Option to change it, nothing happens, it will not open. This occurs in the WS2008 RTM, Vista x64 RTM, Vista x86 SP1 and XP Pro SP2.

IE8 Strict Mode correctly omits the filter: alpha(opacity=xx) in CSS which allows the user to specify the opacity in pre-IE8 browsers but does not implement the CSS3 opacity setting. While I understand that opacity is part of the CSS3 spec which is not finalized, this leaves developers with an odd regression in functionality where it is no longer possible to change opacity on css elements (where as it was with IE 5.5, IE 6.0, IE 7.0, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, among others).
