Description

If you highlight text and release the left mouse button whilst over a link IE9 clicks the link. For example in Google if you highlight the start of your search you will very likely finish with your pointer over the google logo which results in you going back to the google homepage rather than highlighting the text.

Still broken in Still broken in 9.0.7940.16406

I am using IE 9.0.7930.16406 (thought it's 'preview 7' that I installed after removing IE9 back to IE8, rebooting)

I still have that highlight issue... highlighting text (in input box ) right to left, swinging mouse out to left, outside of text/input box, and over a link, clicks the link.

nice that you fixed it in the Preview 6 but most of us are your normal users and not developers, so we are using the public beta which is not fixed yet....

Thank you for your feedback.

This issue was resolved in Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview Build released on 10/28/2010. Please verify the change and file a new feedback (or reactivate the existing one) if the problem persists.

The internal Microsoft bug was resolved. We wait til another build has been released before resolving and communicate with the bug filer. When the bug is resolved, you get a message. The resolution should be "Fixed" not "External"

Best regards,

The Internet Explorer Team

What does "External" mean? What external system is to blame for unintentional clicks on links in IE?

Thank you for your feedback.

We were able to reproduce the issue and are investigating it.

The highlighted text must be in a text box.
