IE9 and 10 have a bug where clicking a link that does not preventDefault, but also does not navigate to another page or anchor, can do some pretty crazy things to event listeners, making them fire for the wrong events and/or not fire at all.  This often results in (possibly quite nasty) JS errors on a page.

Thank you for the feedback. This issue does not reproduce in Microsoft Edge. We're not presently working on feature bugs in Internet Explorer outside of security-related issues. At this point we are resolving this issue as Won’t Fix.
