The Release Note for "Windows Management Framework 4.0 Preview" states that it doesn't run on Windows 8.0, and that testing PS4 on Windows 8 requires "upgrading" to Windows 8.1 Preview.

Can you please clarify whether WMF4.0 RTM will be available / supported on Windows 8.0? (I sincerely hope it will!)

Well... this is kinda bad news for us since we're using Windows Embedded Standard 7 with PS2 currently, are considering moving to PS3 on WES7 (for products that will keep using WES7) and moving to Windows Embedded 8 Standard (for new products).

I'm inferring from your statement that PS4 will be available for Windows 7 (so probably for WES7), for Windows 8.1, but... not for WE8S, so we'll have to stick to... PS3?

In the PowerShell blog at, it states the following:
Note that WMF 4.0 Preview does not install on Windows 8. However, you can obtain the updated functionality included in WMF 4.0 by installing Windows 8.1 which is available as a free update for Windows 8.

This is the same for WMF 4.0 RTM. The WMF 4.0 RTM package does not install on Windows 8.0. To get the features included with WMF 4.0, install Windows 8.1.
