Currently, the SSIS expression language doesn't support user defined functions. Therefore, it may be necessary to re-create the same complex expression repeatedly. Adding support for user defined functions to the SSIS expression language would simplify the re-creation of complex expressions.

I really would like to have this feature in SSIS.

I'd also like to see this added as a feature in the next edition.

The ability to extend SSIS packages using Microsoft's flagship .NET Framework seems like a no-brainer.

Why wouldn't Microsoft do it?

Wanted to file the same request and stumbled upon this one, so I totally agree! Even SSRS can do it!

I keep running into this issue...

Why is this closed? The competitors already have this functionality...

Similar request here:

Seriously this is a very critical component. Especially when you consider how easily the competing solutions (Oracle Warehouse Builder, etc) provide for it.

I notice that this issue's status is closed as of 7/21/2007, but ask that you re-open it. Although this time around, I had to abandon SSIS in favor of Java, I would like to see ability to extend the Expression language (or at a minimum be able to develop functions called within it).

This will not just lead to faster development, it will lead to possible development. Thank you!

Yes, this would be very useful. Please add to a future release!

I think this is a great suggestion; and even when is not going to make it for 2008 version; at least please keep this suggestion open to be consider for the next release.

Thanks for reporting this issue, unfortunately we are not able to implement your suggestions (or fixes) in the Katmai timeframe.

Thank you for using SQL Server Integration Services.
This is a very good suggestion and not uncommon, to have some way to use global code or variables across the control/data flows. We are investigating how best to accomplish this for a future release.
Thank you.
