User(s) can reproduce this bug
Second try, First feedback did not show in list.
When creating a Linked Server in SQL Management Studio, I cannot get to the Provider Options dialog to set "Allow InProcess" and "Use Index as Access Path" attributed for my 3rd party OLEDB Provider (an Index class provider). Help sugests right-click on provider name in tree list but I only get a pop-up menu with "Refresh" selection. In SQL Server 2000 the Provider Options were accessed via a button under the provider selection drop list in Enterprise Manager.
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services
Windows XP Professional
Operating System Language
Steps to Reproduce
In Management Studio Express, select Server Objects then right-click Linked Servers. In the Linked Server configure any provider. Expand the Providers node in the tree list and right-click any provider.
A pop-up menu with only "Refresh" selection.
A pop-up menu with Provider Options selection.

Thank you very much for pointing out the problem with SSMS-E connecting to Linked Servers. For the first release of SSMS-E, we made the intentional decision not to support Linked Server dialogs in this free version of SQL Server Management Studio. The behavior you want is in the full version of the SQL Server. We plan to address the additon of these dialogs in the next major release of SQL Server. In the meantime, you will need to use the T-SQL commands for linked servers such as:
- sp_addlinkedserver - you can use the @provstr property to set the connection parameters for the OLEDB provider
- sp_addlinkedsrvlogin - setup the permissions to connect
to post a workaround.
Please enter a workaround.
