Description

I try to install CTP5 of SQL Server 2008 on a virtual PC running Windows XP (Dutch edition, SP2, all hotfixes and updates applied. I have installed NOD32 (antivirus), but no other software.

At the end of the CTP5 installation, the progress screen displays a status of "Failed" for the components Database Engine Services, Replication, and Reporting Services. For other components, the status is "Success".

A quick inspection of the log files does not give me any clue as to the reason. I lack the time for a detailed analysis of the log files, but I will attach them (as a ZIP file) to this bug report.

After this failed setup attempt, I can start up Management Studio, but I can not connect to SQL Server - the error message says the server is in single user mode, and only a single administrator can connect.

This will be fixed in a post-CTP6 release. The installation will no longer fail if the OS language is not supported. Instead the installation will proceed as if the OS were English.

Okay, after eight failed attempts to upload the zipped log files as an attachment here I decided to give up.
