Using SQL 2008 CTP5 whenever I try to start the SQL Agent it gives an error that it started and then stopped. In the application log it has an entry for the SQL Agent stopping and then stopping normally. I am using a domain account that is in the local administrators group (has sysadmin permissions on the instance). I double-checked the password and tried the Local Service account with no luck.

Also, tried using the RECONFIGURE sp_configure to set the Agent XPs to 1 with success, but when I try to start the SQL Agent the Agent XPs goes back to 0.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your help! I discovered that the drive letter for the SQL Agent error log had changed. Tried changing it throught SQL Server Configuration Manager but that didn't do it. Then found that I had to manually change the drive letter for it in the registry then it started up fine.

The agent.out file basically shows a completely normal (if short) life for Agent....
2007-11-28 11:00:10 - ? [131] SQLSERVERAGENT service stopping due to a stop request from a user, process, or the OS.

This line indicates someone else asked Agent to stop again.... Do you know of any other process that would have been asking agent to stop?

Hello Richard,

Attached the SQLAgent.out to the case.

We need the sqlagent.out file to even start to understand what's going on here.
