Description

Hi,

I think it would be useful if SQL Server Management Studio had the ability to dump query results straight to Excel, including column names. I have been running some one -off queries in Management Studio, and when I right click on the upper left corner of the Results Grid (after running a query) I can save results as a .csv file, but it would be nice if you could save directly into the Excel file format, so you didn't have to open the .csv file in Excel and do some modifications to the data before saving to the Excel file format.

I am currently using SQL Server 2005, but plan to upgrade to 2008 soon.

Thanks,

Joshua

Hi:

We took a look at this bug along with several others recently. Unfortunately, triaging it against other critical bugs, I do not think we would get to investigating this in the near future. However, we have taken note of this internally, and when we revisit this functionality in the future, we will try and get this resolved.

Thanks for writing in to Microsoft.

Cheers,
Bishal

Dear Joshua,

Thank you for reporting this enhancement request. We understand that not having a direct Excel output introduces a few extra steps in converting result set into .xls. The product team will look at this suggestion and try to incorporate your feedback for a future release of SQL Server.

Thanks,
-Karthik
